The Shay Locomotive -    (Transportation - Railroads) Nacogdoches  (Nacogdoches Co.)
Located at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacadoches, this Shay locomotive is one of few surviving around the world. Shay locomotive convert their steam power to gears attached to each drive wheel. They were used predominantly in the logging and coal industries for short runs.

Texas Interlocking Tower Home Page -    (Transportation - Railroads) Statewide Information
History and Photos of Interlocking towers (building located adjacent crossing by two railroad lines). Significant slice of Texas and Railroad History. Otherwise called Switching or Switch towers, these tower contained the series of controls for switches, derailers, and semifors (lights or block signals), which directed the trains along their route. Coded blasts of the train whistle would signal the interlocking operator, as to the route of the oncoming train, so he could set the series of switches and signals.
