  1. 2nd Largest Cross in the Western Hemisphere
    Groom, (Carson County)

    Visible for miles in the Texas Panhandle is one of the largest crosses in the world. 30 Miles east of Amarillo outside Groom is a display which is a must see for travelers. At the base of the 190 foot cross are the stations of the cross, cast lifeside in bronze. A walking tour takes you from the trial of Jesus, to his crucifiction, to his burial and resurection.

    In 1995, Steve Thomas of Pampa erected the largest cross in North America on donated land west of Groom. A recent addition to the display are sculptures depicting the story of the trial and crucifiction of Jesus, the stations of the cross, the tomb and resurrection. The Groom Cross can be seen for miles along Interstate 40, and has become a place of pilgrimage for travelers along old Route-66. The website covers other Groom area attractions including the Bug Ranch, the Leaning Tower of Texas, and the old Tower Restaurant.

    No, it's not an illusion, and it's not falling down. The water tower in Britten in the Texas Panhandle was deliberately built that way to attract tourists to this small Panhandle community off of I-40. Website has directions and pictures.
