Dooley Wilson (Casablanca's Sam) Dies
LOS ANGELES CA  (1953)     On this date in 1943, Arthur (Dooley) Wilson died. As an actor, his most famous roll was that of "Sam" in the 1942 film Casablanca. Can we request, just once more, "Play it again, Dooley".

Bill Clements dies
HOUSTON  (2011)   On this date in 2011, former Texas governor, Bill Clements died of declining health at a Houston Hospital. His 69 year old son was killed just seven month prior, and that death had been hard on the former Governor.
   Clements was the first Republican governor of Texas since Reconstruction in the 1870s. Governor Rick Perry referred to Clements as the father of the modern-day Texas Republican Party. Over the years after his election in 1979, Texas has elected several Republican Senators, many Republican Congressmen, and filled the state house in Austin, as well as city and county governments with Republican elected officials.
   Clements served as Deputy Secretary of Defense before running and winning the Governor's race in 1972. Defeated by Mark White in 1982, Clements returned for a rematch in 1986, and secured a second term.
   At the time of his death in Houston, Clements was 94.

Edie Brickell marries Paul Simon
NEW YORK CITY  (1992)    On this date in 1992, Dallas born singer, Edie Brickell, married singer/songwriter Paul Simon, 25 years her senior. They had three children, Adrian, Lulu, and Gabriel. Edie, with the New Bohemians, had a top 10 hit with "What I Am" in 1988.
   Paul has one child by his first wife Peggy Harper. In 1983 he married actress Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia of "Star Wars").

Tornado Hits town of Zephyr
BROWNWOOD  (1909)   Just after midnight, on this date in 1909, an F4 tornado struck the town of Zephyr in Brown County destroying large parts of the town, leaving vacant lots in its path. The path of the tornado is uncertain, however, most deaths occurred in the residential areas on the south and east sides of the town. The tornado damaged nearly 50 homes, 6 businesses, 2 churches, and a high school. It killed 34 and injured 70, and was the eighth deadliest tornado in Texas history.
