Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) was introduced in 1990 by Tim Berners-Lee of CERN. HTML is a subset of SGML and is used to establish links between documents on the World Wide Web. Since 1990 NCSA, Netscape, and Microsoft have added to the capabilities of HTML. In addition other companies have added to the mix scripting language and plug-ins. Today, HTML and its counterparts form a powerful multimedia environment, easy to create and maintain, and with limitless uses.
