A Little About Me

I have been taking pictures as long as I can remember. In the late 1980s, I moved into a cottage on the shores of Lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country. At that time, I purchased my first professional camera (a Mamiya RB67, medium format camera). For the next three years, I explored America from Tuscon to Little Rock, from Brownsville to Topeka. It was a great time, a time of great reflection, lots of writing, endless sunsets, streams, mountains, and exploration. Eventually, the lonliness caught up with me, and I returned to my roots in banking.

Four more years of banking, then twenty years of teaching at a local college, and I became financially able to retire. The medium-format film world of 25 years before was gone, and digital equipment finally came of age. I purchased a full frame Canon 6D camera, several lenses and other accessories. A year later, I purchased a second camera and had it modified to capture the 720nm Infrared light band. Together these two cameras, and great software, have become the center of my photography.

I enjoy exploring America in my soft-top Jeep Wrangler and my wooden tear-drop trailer. Together, we have explored America from the Dakotas to Key West, the Continental Divide to the Potomac. Over the next few years, I plan to complete my adventure to the rest of the lower 48 states, the mountains, the rivers, shorelines, lighthouses, waterfalls, and small towns. So much to see, so little time.

I don't always feel the need to take photographs. Many places I visit can only be capture in word. They are feelings more than images. Sometimes I am moved so profoundly, that what I'm seeing and feeling simply cannot be captured at all. That is my personal world of wonder and awe. Maybe it's something that each of you has to experience for yourself. It's not feeling young again, or having an "old soul". It's timeless, beyond explantation, beyond the telling, like falling in love for the first time, or feeling the warm embrace of God.

I hope you enjoy the images captured along my route. From time to time, these images are available for sale on canvas, metal, or matted print. In 2019, I am relocating to Door County, Wisconsin. If you are ever in the area, check out my photographs at various venues. At some point, the words and the images will blend into a book worthy of a special place on your coffeetable or night stand. Until then, please enjoy online, my reflections of America.
