GOLIAD Click Here to follow "Texas Revolution" back in Time(1836)Click Here to follow "Texas Revolution" forward in Time  On this date in 1836, Texans, commanded by Colonel James Fannin, having left the protection of the mission at Goliad, were defeated in an open field battle by Mexican Federal troops under General José Urrea. One week later, every prisoners held by Urrea were executed under order of Santa Anna.
   Texians never forgot the massacre of their captured brotheren, and the cry of "Remember Goliad!" led Texians into battle. Santa Anna's cruelty was again exhibited following the Battle at the Alamo, when the few surviving Texians, were captured, including Davy Crockett, and then executed.

LaSalle is killed without finding the Mississippi
MATAGORDA Click Here to follow "LaSalle" back in Time (1687) Click Here to follow "LaSalle" forward in Time  On this date in 1687, while on a second trip from Fort St Louis near the Matagorda Bay, Rene Robert Cavelier, Sieur de LaSalle was killed by by Pierre Duhaut, one of his followers disenchanted by the many failures and set backs of the LaSalle Expedition. SAN ANTONIO   (1840)    On this date in 1940 in San Antonio, 30 Comanche leaders, together with women and children are killed after traveling to San Antonio to negotiate a prisoner exchanged. The battle, called the Council House Fight, enrages Comanches and leads to the increased violence along the frontier.

Santa Anna overthows Iturbide in Mexico City
MEXICO CITY Click Here to follow "Mexican Revolution" back in Time (1823) Click Here to follow "Mexican Revolution" forward in Time  On this date in 1823, Don Agustin Iturbide who had overthrown the Spanish Government and established himself as Emperor of Mexico, was himself overthrown by Mexican Federalists under Santa Anna. A governing commission is then established with a new Constitution is promised.
