On this date in 1836, Charles Goodnight was born in Macoupin County, Illinois. His father died of pneumonia when he was 5. In 1845, when he was 10, Goodnight's mother and step-father, Hiram Daugherty, took him to live in Milam County, Texas. Charles rode the entire 800 miles bareback on his horse "Blaze".
(1927)
Following the death of his first wife, Molly, Charles Goodnight took ill. He was nursed back to health by Corinne Goodnight a 26 year old nurse with whom he had corresponded partly due to the similarity in both their surnames. On March 5, 1927, Charles turned 91 and celebrated by marrying the 26 year old Corinne Goodnight. Two and one half years later, Charles Goodnight died at 93 in Phoenix.
