On this date in 1941, singer J Frank Wilson was born in Lufkin. While stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, he met up with the Cavaliers, and together recorded "Last Kiss". In 1964, in the midst of Beatlemania, the song hit No 2 on Billboards top 100.
On this date in 1879, Amon G Carter was born in Crafton. It was Carter who was the force behind Fort Worth acquiring it's first public Airport and Airmail route and bringing the Airplane industry to Fort Worth.

On this date in 1980, Magnum P.I. premiered on television starting Tom Selleck as a well tanned private investigator, Thomas Magnum IV. Opposite Tom on the Hawaiian based detective show, was Texas born John Hillerman, as Englishman Jonathan Quayle Higgins III. Hillerman had to develop an English accent for his roll as Higgins, an accent so convincing that he once received a fan letter from a British Lord which included "You are a credit to the Empire". Now THAT's acting!
