On this date in 1917, Weatherford native, James "Hippo" Vaughn of the Chicago Cubs and Fred Toney of the Cincinnati Reds each pitched a 9-inning no-hitter forcing the game at Weeghman Park (now Wrigley Field) in Chicago, into extra innings.

Overturning a lower court which held that the Democratic party was NOT a government agency and therefore could deny blacks membership in the party, the US Supreme Court on this date in 1932 by a 5-4 decision held that the party was acting as a government agent by conducting primary elections, and blacks therefore were entitled to vote in party primaries.
