On this date in 1949, Country singer BW Stevenson was born in Dallas. He graduated Adamson High School in 1967 before joining the Air Force. After the service, he settled in Austin, where he was a regular performer at several of the clubs. In 1973 he hit the Pop chart with "My Maria" which ironically never made the country chart. He did in 1988 following heart problems.

On this date in 1997, at Selena Auditorium in Corpus Christi, John Denver, gave his last public concert before being killed in a plane he was piloting off the coast of Monterey Bay in California. Denver graduated from Fort Worth's Arlington Heights High School in 1961 where he played football. His concert in Corpus Christi was one of almost a hundred Texas concerts he had given during his career. The encore song of the Corpus Christi concert was "Calypso". After the concert John Denver was presented with a navigational instrument from Jacque CousteauÂ’s famous ship "The Calypso".

On this date in 1948, the United State Supreme Court upheld the ruling of Justice Hugo Black ordering Lyndon Johnson name be placed on the Texas ballot for US Senator, declaring LBJ the winner of the Democratic Primary, despite claims of voter fraud.
