Trapped 22 feet down
MIDLAND  (1987)   18-month-old Jessica McClure, fell into an 8 inch well about 9:30 A.M. October 14th 1987, while playing with other children at a private day care center run by her aunt and her mother. It took rescuers 58 hours to rescue "Baby Jessica" from the hole left there by the oil industry years before. Drilling equipment was brought in and a parallel hole was drilled, and rescuers made an opening just below where she was trapped. On this date in 1987, as the nation watched on television, Baby Jessica was safely recovered from the well. She would go on to graduate high school in 2004, and in January 2006, she was married.
