Spurs win first home game in the NBA
SAN ANTONIO  (1976)   On this date in 1976, at HemisFair Arena in San Antonio, the Spurs in their first season with the NBA, played and won their first home game as an NBA franchise, beating Phoenix 115-106. In the game Larry Kenon scored 41 points, and went on to lead the spurs to a 44-38 season record and their first trip to the NBA playoffs.

PORT ARTHUR   (1949)   On this date in 1949, Clifford Antone, founder of Antones nightclub in Austin, was born. Among the hundreds of bands to headline Antone's over the years were the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. Antone died in 2006.   

Planned Sea Wall
GALVESTON (1902)  On this date in 1902, construction began on the Galveston Sea Wall.
   Following the Great Storm that all but destroyed the city two years before, this new sea wall will reduce the impact of storm surges that might hit Galveston Island during future tropical storms.
