On this date in 1976, at HemisFair Arena in San Antonio, the Spurs in their first season with the NBA, played and won their first home game as an NBA franchise, beating Phoenix 115-106. In the game Larry Kenon scored 41 points, and went on to lead the spurs to a 44-38 season record and their first trip to the NBA playoffs.
On this date in 1949, Clifford Antone, founder of Antones nightclub in Austin, was born. Among the hundreds of bands to headline Antone's over the years were the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. Antone died in 2006.
