On this date in 1861, Abraham Lincoln is inaugurated President of the United State. Following Lincoln's election, twelve southern states talk of secession from the Federal Union.
Elvis performs at DeKalb H.S. Auditorium
On this date in 1955, Elvis Presley performed at the High School Auditorium in DeKalb. The next night, he appeared on The Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport.
Sam Houston is made Commander of Texas army
On this date in 1836, Sam Houston is appointed Major General of the Army of the Republic of Texas including regular, volunteer, and militia. Houston takes command immediately and begins to organize the army.
