On this date in 1993, four federal agents from the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agency were killed in a shoot out with Branch Davidians in Elk, near Waco. The Davidians, led by Vernon Howell (aka David Koresh), had been accumulating and modify firearms. In addition, Koresh had fathered over 11 children by seven mothers, many of them underage.

On this date in 1845, the United States Congress passed a resolution to annex Texas. Word is dispatched to Texas with the offer. Britain is against Annexation, asking Mexico to recognize Texas if she does not join the Union. The bid fails, and within months Texans vote to accept the offer and join the Union.
