On this date in 1836, thirty-two Volunteers from Gonzales fight their way into the Alamo. They would be under Jim Bowie's command until Bowie takes ill, then Texas Colonel William Barret Travis took command of all forces, volunteers and regular military at the Alamo.
In 1939, the Golden Gate International Exposition was held in San Francisco. As part of the fair, a race was held from Texas to the fair in San Francisco. On this date in Nacona, the starting gun was fired by Amon G Carter, and 18 riders took off in hopes of receiving 750 brand new silver dollars from the San Francisco Mint.

On this date in 1836, one month after delegates were elected at the various settlements around Texas, the Convention of 1836 convened at Washington-on-the-Brazos. As the Mexican Army made its way up from the Rio Grande to San Antonio, the delegates hastily begin drafting a Declaration of Independence.

On this date in 1912, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company was formed by the merger of The Missouri and Kansas Telephone Company, the Missouri Bell Telephone Company, the Pioneer Telephone Company of Oklahoma, and the Southwestern Telegraph and Telephone Company. The Headquarters for the new Southwestern Bell would be in St Louis.
