On this date in 1984, Texas born Ernest Tubb, the "Texas Troubadour" died in Nashville. He was a country yodeler until a 1939 tonsillectomy lowered his voice a bit and most of his country yodeling. His biggest hits include "Walking the Floor Over You".

On this date in 1911, Texas Christian University opened it's new campus on 50 acres in Fort Worth. A year and half earlier, TCU's Waco campus was destroyed by fire, leaving the school in temporary facilities while the new campus was built in Fort Worth.

On this date in 1961, The Confederate Air Force, an association of restored WWII Air Craft owners was chartered.
