Nolan Ryan reaches his 5,000th
Songwriter, Singer Floyd Tillman dies
On this date in 2003, country singer and songwriter, Floyd Tillman died. Son of a sharecropper, Tillman was raised in Post in the southern Texas panhandle. Tillman has over 1,000 country songs to his credit, and is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Actress Regina Taylor born in Dallas
On this date in 1960, actress Regina Taylor was born in Dallas. She was raised in Muskogee Oklahoma, but returned to Dallas, graduating from Pinkston High School in 1977. In 1981, Taylor graduated from Southern Methodist University. On Broadway, she was the first black woman to play Juliet. She made her film debut in "Lean on Me", and in 1991-94, starred 39 episodes of "I'll Fly Away". In 2007 she was cast as Molly Blaine in "The Unit".
Fans Go Crazy
On this date in 1989, Texas Ranger pitcher Nolan Ryan struck out Rickey Henderson of the Oakland A's, for his 5,000th Career strikeout. Ryan had set the new strikeout record six years before, passing Walter Johnson's old record of 3,509. Ryan would add another 714 strikeouts before his retirement in 1993.
