Farrah Fawcett, dead at 62
SANTA MONICA CA  (2009)     On this date in 1962, Actress and Model, Farrah Fawcett, died at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, with her long time partner, Ryan O'Neal, at her side.
   Fawcett starred as Jill Munroe in the hit television series, Charlies Angles. In 1984, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her roll in The Burning Bed.
   Farrah was 62.
Former Governor Miriam Ferguson dies
AUSTIN  (1961)     On this date in 1961, Miriam "Ma" Ferguson died. She ran for governor to clear the name of her husband who was forced from office, and in 1925 became Texas' first female Governor.

Miss America, Phyllis George, born in Denton
DENTON   (1949)    On this date in 1949, future Miss America Phyllis George was born in Denton. She graduated from Denton High School in 1967, and later from North Texas State University. She became Miss Texas 1970, and Miss America 1971. She later became co-host of Candid Camera, and CBS's NFL Today.   

Water level soon restored
JEFFERSON  (1910)   In the 1870s, the Feds removed the log jam ("the Great Raft") that formed Caddo Lake, and the waters receded. On this date in 1910, the Federal government took control of Caddo Lake, and began building an earthen dam, to restore the water level. But not before oil was discovered. In 1911, the world's first over water oil well, struck oil at 2,185 feet, producing 450 barrels per day. Caddo Lake State Park is a major effort to preserve what was once touted as the most beautiful lake in America.

Spurs win the NBA Championship
NEW YORK NY  (1999)   On this date in 1999, the San Antonio Spurs beat the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden 78-77, to win Game 5 of the 1999 NBA Finals, and the NBA Championship for the first time in franchise history.
   An 18-foot jump shot by Avery Johnson with 47 seconds left on the clock, put the Spurs on top, and the Spurs held the Knicks scoreless for the remainder of the game, to clinch their first ever NBA Championship.
