MLB Approves New Owners
MINNEAPOLIS  (2010)Click Here to follow "Rangers Baseball" forward in Time  On this date in 2010, Major League Baseball approved the sale of the Texas Rangers to an ownership group headed by Nolan Ryan and Chuck Greenburg, and including Ray Davis and Bob Simpson among others.
   At almost the same exact moment, veteran Rangers third baseman, Michael Young, hit a Grand Slam at Seattle, It seemed that lightning had struck the Rangers. Two months later, the Rangers would eliminate the New York Yankees on their way to the Ranger's first trip ever to the World Series.

Joe Tex suffers Heart Attack in Navasota
NAVASOTA   (1982)    Using the stage name of "Joe Tex", Joe Arrington, Jr, born in Baytown in 1933, recorded dozens of hit records during the 1960s and 70s. His first hit "Hold on to What You've Got" reached No. 5. "Skinny Legs and All" broke into the top 10, and "I Gotcha" reached No 2. He never had a No.1 hit.
   Joe Tex and James Brown toured together, which lead to a feud between the two. Joe accused James of not only of stealing his wife, Bea Ford, but several of his dance moves. The feud bowled over when James Brown fired a bullet into a club owned by Joe.
   On this date in 1982, Joe Tex suffered a massive heart attack in Navasota, and by the next day, he had died. He was 49.
