Goodnight Arrives with 1,600 Cattle at Palo Duro

CANYON Click Here to follow "Charles Goodnight" back in Time(1876)Click Here to follow "Charles Goodnight" forward in Time  On this date in 1876, Charles Goodnight arrives at the edge of Palo Duro Canyon from grazing land in New Mexico with 1,600 head of cattle. Goodnight had decided that the Palo Duro Canyon was the ideal spot for a cattle ranch. Within days he would locate a site for a temporary quarters (a stone hut that has now been reconstructed), and a trail down the canyon. Bullalo were driven out, and the descent to the canyon made. At the eastern end of the Canyon where it widens to about 10 miles, Goodnight constructed his ranchhouse. More of "Charles Goodnight" on the Web
