On this date in 1836, the Texas Congress declared the Rio Grande River to be the southern boundary for the Republic of Texas.

On this date in 1799, Philip Nolan married Frances Lintot, daughter of a prominent Natchez planter. Nolan had made several excursions into Texas rounding up wild mustangs to sell to the Louisiana militia, even meeting with the Spanish governor in San Antonio. But within a year and a half, Nolan would die in a battle with the Spanish army somewhere near Blum in present day Hill County.
