On this date in 1942, John E Blaha was born in San Antonio. Following his education at the Air Force Academy and Purdue, and several years in the Air Force, he joined the NASA Space Program.

On this date in 1980, famed cartoonist Tex Avery died of lung cancer. At Warner Brothers, Tex is credited with creating Daffy Duck, and developing Bugs Bunny into a wacky character. It was Tex who added the googly eyes to wolves, curves to the women, and droop to Droopy the dog. Tex was 72.

On this date in 1857, Lyne Barret married Angelina Martha Thomas near Nacogdoches. Barret would help to form the Melrose Petroleum Company, and drill the first successful oil well in Texas at Oil Springs. Lyne and Angelina had eleven children.
