Amenities ...
Launched May 12, 1936. Streamlined May 18, 1937. Originally a 9-car train. In 1947, lightweight equipment was added, such that this train became a daily train. In 1950, the Super Chief was completely re-equipped. In January 1951 Dome cars (Pleasure Domes) were added. This train combined with the El Capitan for Winter Service until service was discontinued in 1971, when Amtrak taking over service. Although the trains were combined, the passengers of the hi-level coaches of the El Capitan, had only emergency access to the standard height cars of the all sleeper Super Chief section.
